Upsets were a trend on night one of the 2019 NHL playoffs, with the underdog Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets all winning as the visitors on the opening evening. You can add in the New York Islanders win, too. They are technically the favourites with home ice against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the Isles aren’t really the popular pick against the potent Pens.
Will we see the same in Thursday’s trio? Can Toronto beat the mighty Bruins in Boston? Does Carolina have a hope against the defending Cup champ in Washington? Do the Avalanche have a snowball’s chance in Calgary against the Flames?
You bet. That’s why we’re looking at the over/under instead of the outcome.
